What to expect during our lessons

Beginning singing lessons may seem like a daunting experience, but I assure you, there is nothing to worry about. I want you to feel free to explore your creativity and there are a few things I do to make sure you feel at ease.

Firstly, we’ll just have a little chat. I want to find out what sort of music you like, some musicians you look up to and what you would like to get out of singing lessons. We all sing for different reasons and I want to make sure I can create lessons that are going to suit your needs.

Next, we’ll begin with a warm up. Just like in sport, we need to warm up our vocal chords so we don’t hurt ourselves. A vocal warm up involves some breathing exercises and some technical exercises. I’ll make sure I explain everything thoroughly so you know exactly what to do.

After we’re all warmed up, I’ll ask you if there’s a song you really love to sing. I’ll get you to sing it for me (this can be with the artist singing so you don’t feel overwhelmed) and then we’ll workshop it. When we workshop a song, we target the areas that need a little extra support and also work towards bringing the song to life. This means we’re going to try and tell a story while we sing.

If we have some more time, we’ll workshop a few more songs and then after a few lessons, we’ll have started creating our repertoire (collection of songs). In later lessons we can also work towards doing some recording and songwriting.

These lessons are yours to lead. I’m simply here to guide you and share my knowledge with you ♡
